Research Centers and Institutes

Meijo Asian Research Center (MARC)

MARC is open to researchers who have an interest in Asia. It provides support functions to expand Asian studies at Meijo University and develops research activities in collaboration with research institutions in Japan and abroad. In addition, MARC holds regular seminars and symposiums for students and the general public to promote understanding of Asia.

Green Bio-Business Development Project

This project consists of the science-oriented Plant Group and Balance and Restoration Group, and the Social Group that conducts humanities-oriented research, and is working to develop ways to deal with the deterioration of the global environment from a broad perspective.

Advanced Research Center for Natural Disaster Risk Reduction (NDRR)

The 21st century is experiencing natural disasters such as massive earthquakes, intense localized rainstorms that cause flooding and mud flows in watersheds, and complex disasters combining heavy rains and earthquakes. The objective of NDRR is to conduct studies on the significant risks posed by such natural disasters and to advance disaster mitigation research to reduce these risks.

Advanced Research Center for Seismic Experiments and Computations (ARCSEC)

In the Tokai region of Japan, the occurrence of a massive earthquake is feared— the worst-case scenario assumes that earthquakes will occur simultaneously in three different regions. In this light, ARCSEC is working on research relating to efficient seismic reinforcement for structures to protect residents and social infrastructure from damage.

Gender Studies Institute

In these times the realization of a society in which men and women participate equally is an important social issue. This institute is developing activities open to the community that contribute to society by striving to promote and enhance research and education based on a gender perspective.

Plant Biotech Research Center

There is strong demand in the global community to develop plants resistant to salt- and drought-stress conditions, and to contribute to solving the problems of food supply and global environmental issues. The objective of this center is to use genetic engineering techniques to develop salt- and drought-tolerant and low-temperature-resistant plants.

Institute of Industrial Districts

This institute analyzes the division of labor and industry in Asia, brought about by globalization. It also researches the role that industrial clusters in Aichi Prefecture play in Asia and strives to confirm the importance of their existence.
